In September 2020 whilst studying at Sheffield University, Samson Kiemo a resident of Batemoor, produced a Research Paper entitled ‘Batemoor and Jordanthorpe Open Space Regeneration – Don’t Leave Us Behind.’ This initiated much interest as he consulted widely with members of Sheffield City Council and local people for their views and ideas.
Following on from this a consultation was held by the Parks and Countryside team at Sheffield City Council in the Spring of 2021. A Public Meeting of interested people was held in September 2021 and further meetings followed to establish the Friends Group. The Inaugural AGM was held in February 2022 when a Committee was elected with the aim of making improvements to the park. Monthly litter picks around the park were also started at this time.
The Friends Group have been successful in several funding bids as well as receiving some generous anonymous donations, along with a donation from Chantrey TARA. Improvements so far have included planting of bulbs and fruit bushes and the installation of two football goals. New playground equipment is currently being installed to update the existing equipment with completion in November 2023. The Outdoor Gym and Youth Shelter on Dyche Lane will also be relocated onto the park. Future plans include installing CCTV on the park for which funding has already been secured.
